Welcome to Itron Utility Week 2016! Our annual customer conference kicked-off this morning in Orlando with our opening general session featuring welcome remarks by Russ Vanos, vice president for sales and marketing at Itron and a keynote from our CEO, Philip Mezey, discussing the Active Network.

If you aren’t able to attend this year’s conference, we’ll be posting recaps from select sessions here as well as livestreaming others on our Facebook page. We encourage you to join the conversation online!

During one of our first breakout sessions this morning, we caught up with Rich Layton, Itron product manager, who spoke about the recently released Itron Mobile solution - a full mobile data collection and field asset management solution designed to transform field operations.

Itron Mobile was created in collaboration with Itron Idea Labs, our incubation hub dedicated to discovering new opportunities for effective energy and water management and accelerating innovation by engaging our customers to deliver new and strategic solutions. “This is an exciting offering that demonstrates how we partnered together with customers to help solve their needs and deliver a new app within just a few months,” said Rich Layton.

As part of the comprehensive solution, the Itron Mobile app can be used on mobile devices, tablets or laptops and works across a variety of operating systems. Itron Mobile is adaptable and can be utilized for automated meter reading (AMR) or manual reads, collecting accurate data through the powerful MC3 radio for drive-by operations, and the new handheld Itron Mobile Radio for walk-by operations. Additionally, the app offers new functionality such as the ability to capture photographs as a part of the meter-reading process. “The app is a powerful new toolkit for collecting data and performing field activities, while working alongside legacy technology,” Layton added.

Another key feature is its ability to streamline operations and create efficiencies for companies. Not only is AMR and manual meter reading simplified, but through the app, supervisors can manage their workforce in the field and remotely and easily reassign work or shift priorities as needed. Additionally, Itron Mobile also uses data to warn field employees of potential hazards.

We’re very excited to offer this convenient, new solution that enables our customers to capture data in ways that weren’t possible before! If you’re attending IUW but weren’t able to join the session, stop by the Itron Mobile booth in the Knowledge Center. We have an Itron Mobile “meter reading” trivia game so participants can experience the app first hand.

Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for more updates from the IUW 2016. Our next blog will feature Curt Kirkeby from Avista discussing how the company has successfully implemented Itron’s OpenWay Riva IoT solution.
