Meet Our People

Joshua T.

I started at Itron about six years ago as a UX (“user experience”) design intern and was hired shortly after my year-long internship.

UX design is part of the overall software development process and includes all aspects of the end-user's interaction with Itron and it’s products and services. Art and design have always been in my DNA so building my career in UX fits who I am. My love for art can be seen throughout downtown Spokane as I have painted murals on several historic buildings, such as the Carr Lighting Building and Spokane’s Empire State Building. Read more about my love for visual arts here.

Prior to joining Itron, I talked to a lot of existing employees to see what they thought of the company, and I was surprised by two things. One is that almost 75% of the people I talked to had been working at Itron for over 10 years. Two is that everybody I talked to absolutely loved what they did. I genuinely have never seen a place where people stay as long as they do at Itron. My father comes from the world of athletics and it’s normal for turnover to happen every couple of years. It stands out to me that Itron keeps so many incredible people for so long.

Itron is a special place to work. Right before the pandemic hit, my little brother was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, which is a rare form of bone cancer. I can say with 100% assurance that this was one of the most difficult couple of years for my family. I can also say that the outpour of support I received from close coworkers and people across the organization was incredible. The community support I received during that time was crucial for me to get through it.

I will forever be grateful to Itron’s culture that gives people the freedom to support one another when they need it and for giving me an opportunity to build a career doing something that I love. I tell people about this experience often when I’m asked why I still work at Itron. My response is simple: I want to work somewhere that cares about me both in and out of the office. Thank you to all my coworkers for rallying around me during that difficult time in my life. You’re the reason Itron is an incredible place to work.
