Itron Secures Contract with Questar Gas to Upgrade Metering Infrastructure
Utah-based utility to use Itron technology to improve operational efficiency and customer service
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — March 22, 2016 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that it has signed a long-term contract with Questar Gas, a natural gas distribution service provider to nearly 1 million customers in Utah, southwestern Wyoming and southeastern Idaho, to upgrade its automated gas metering system. The utility will initially install 650,000 Itron gas communication modules to enhance its operational efficiency and improve service to its customers. This contract was included in Itron’s bookings in the fourth quarter of 2015.With a large geographic service territory that includes hard-to-read areas and harsh weather conditions, Questar Gas sought a solution to make meter reading easier and more reliable. Itron’s gas automation solution will enable the utility to continue collecting meter reads remotely with mobile data collection technology, streamlining meter reading and improving billing accuracy and reliability. In addition, with detailed meter data, the utility will gain better visibility into utility operations, helping improve efficiencies and reduce costs.
“We are pleased with Itron’s technology and services,” said Craig Wagstaff, president of Questar Gas. “Itron’s automated meter reading system is allowing us to further improve our operations, reduce labor costs and pass the savings on to our customers. Implementing the right technology has been key to helping us operate as one of the most efficient natural gas utilities in the nation.”
“Questar Gas has a strong vision and dedication to creating value for its customers. We are excited to work alongside this exemplary utility to help it achieve its business objectives of improved operations and enhanced customer service,” said Tony Spiritoso, Itron vice president of sales for Gas in North America. “At Itron, we are dedicated to the resourceful use of energy, a vision that Questar shares. We look forward to working together to create a more resourceful world.”
