Executive Management

Itron-Executive-Team-Philip Mezey
Philip Mezey President and Chief Executive Officer
Philip Mezey was appointed president and chief executive officer and named to Itron's board of directors on January 1, 2013. Philip has served the company in several capacities during his career at Itron, most recently as chief operating officer for Itron's global Energy segment, with responsibility for the operations of Itron's electricity and gas businesses around the world. He also previously served as senior vice president and chief operating officer—Itron North America, group vice president and general manager, as well as senior vice president for Software Solutions. Upon Itron's acquisition of Silicon Energy in 2003, Philip joined the company as managing director of Software Development for Itron's Energy Management Solutions group.

Prior to joining Silicon Energy in 2000 as vice president, Software Development, Philip was a founding member and served 12 years with Indus, a provider of integrated asset and customer management software. Philip earned his BA degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley.
Tom Deitrich
Tom Deitrich Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Tom Deitrich has held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer since October 2015. Tom has more than 20 years of experience in global operations at leading technology firms and has held a number of executive management positions where he led business-level strategies that transformed and significantly improved business results. He has extensive experience in product management, research and development, supply chain management and business development in several industries, including industrial equipment, telecommunications and semiconductors.

Before joining Itron, Tom was senior vice president and general manager for Digital Networking at Freescale Semiconductor. Prior to Freescale, Tom worked for Flextronics International, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and General Electric Corporation.
Joan Hooper Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Joan Hooper joined Itron as senior vice president and chief financial officer in June 2017. She has more than 30 years of experience in finance and accounting leadership roles. Most recently, Joan served as the CFO of CHC Helicopter, a helicopter services company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia from 2011 to 2015. Prior to CHC, she held several finance executive positions at Dell, Inc. from 2003 to 2010, including vice president and CFO for its Global Public and Americas business units, vice president of corporate finance and chief accounting officer. Joan also was CFO of FreeMarkets, a provider of procurement tools and services, which she helped take public in 1999. In addition, she held a variety of senior finance positions at AT&T.

Joan holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Creighton University. She also has an MBA with an emphasis in finance and international business from Northwestern University.
Michel Charles Cadieux Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Michel Cadieux has worked in human resources his entire career—more than 30 years—for global technology and manufacturing companies, including Betz Laboratories, the Hudson Bay Company, ING Bank of Canada, Advanced Micro Devices/ATI and Freescale. Before coming to lead Itron's worldwide HR department in 2014, he was senior vice president at Freescale Semiconductor in Austin, TX.

Throughout his career, Michel has demonstrated exceptional ability as an agent of change and a strategic business partner, helping companies to scale, grow and globalize.

At Freescale Semiconductor, Michel joined the company at a time when it was faced with serious financial pressure and he led the restructuring and reinvigorating of the workforce, which was a contributing factor in 2008 to a return to public markets and growth.

Michel holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and personnel, and a certificate in business administration from the University of Ottawa. He also completed the managing human resources program from Queen's University's Executive Development in Ontario, Canada.
Sarah Hlavinka Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Sarah Hlavinka has more than 25 years of experience as a senior advisor and business executive with broad-based experience and legal background in the information technology, service, manufacturing and healthcare industries. She joined Itron in August 2018 as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary where she oversees Itron's legal activities, from corporate governance to risk management.

Prior to joining Itron, Sarah served as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at Xerox Corporation. Prior to Xerox, Sarah was as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at ABM Industries Incorporated, a leading provider of integrated facility services, for nearly 10 years. Previously, she served in various legal roles in companies, including Fisher Scientific International, Benchmark Electronics, Hewlett Packard Company and Cooper Industries.

Sarah received her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University. She serves on the Texas A&M University College of Liberal Arts Development Council.
Marina Donovan Vice President, Global Marketing and Public Affairs
Marina Donovan has more than 20 years of global technology marketing and public relations experience with a background in data security, networking and mobile. She joined Itron as vice president of global marketing & public affairs in January 2018. Prior to joining Itron, she was vice president of marketing for Silver Spring Networks, where Marina led all aspects of outbound marketing including branding and corporate positioning, demand creation, events, product marketing, public relations and web properties. Prior to joining Silver Spring, she held executive marketing positions at IronKey by Imation, Syniverse, VeriSign and RSA Security. Marina holds a Bachelor of Arts in public relations from San Jose State University.
Chuck McAtee Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
Chuck McAtee was named vice president of Information Technology in May 2005 and named chief information officer in January 2006. He joined Itron in July 2004 as IT director of the electricity metering business. Before joining Itron, Chuck was director of IT for Schlumberger Electricity Metering in charge of operations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, France and Taiwan. He spent 18 years with Schlumberger, serving in numerous roles including IT operations manager for its resource management services, which included water, electricity and gas businesses. During his tenure, he helped lead the standardization and implementation of common enterprise resource planning systems across the company.

In addition to his management experience, he has served in various technical roles related to applications development, system architecture, database administration and system integration. Chuck earned his bachelor's in computer science with a concentration in business administration from Clemson University.

Operational Leadership

Mark de Vere White Senior Vice President, Commercial & Customer Enablement
As Itron's senior vice president of Commercial & Customer Enablement (CCE), Mark de Vere White is responsible for leading Itron's sales, channel management, business development and customer success activities across the full company portfolio. Previously, Mark was president of Itron's Electricity business line where he and his team grew revenues from $600 million to over $1 billion a year and EBITDA performance from break even to 12.5%.

Mark has dedicated his career to working with utility and Fortune 1000 customers, focusing on sales, product marketing, go to market strategy and profitable general management of ongoing business operations. He has led his teams with an unyielding drive to deliver customer value, success and profitable growth.

Prior to joining Itron, Mark oversaw consulting, support, hosting and account management at Silicon Energy. Before Silicon Energy, Mark was one of the first employees at market-leading CRM software provider Kana, where he held executive positions overseeing account management, consulting and support teams. Mark started his career in marketing, consulting and direct marketing in New York City.

Mark received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Summa Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa.
Sharelynn Moore Senior Vice President, Networked Solutions
Sharelynn Moore has more than 20 years of experience in the energy and technology sectors. In July 2017, she was named senior vice president of networked solutions. In this role, she is responsible for Itron’s networking platforms and smart cities strategy, globally.

Previously, Sharelynn served as vice president of global marketing and public affairs. She has also served in a variety of product- and marketing-related roles during her more than 15 years at Itron. In previous assignments, Sharelynn focused on the strategy, management and marketing of Itron's Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solutions, network technologies and enterprise meter data management software.

Prior to joining Itron, Sharelynn held marketing and product management roles at Avista Corporation and Micron. She holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Idaho and an MBA with an emphasis in IT from Gonzaga University.
Carl Porter Senior Vice President, Device Solutions
Carl Porter has more than 40 years of experience in the gas industry. As Itron’s senior vice president of device solutions, Carl is responsible for Itron’s strategy to become a leading global provider of measurement, safety and operational devices for utilities and cities. Previously, Carl served as president of Itron’s Gas business line. He has also served as vice president of sales, marketing and delivery for Gas in North America during his more than 15 years at Itron.

Carl has dedicated his career to developing innovative solutions to address utility challenges and ensure the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas. He worked for 30 years at North American utility companies and served as the president and CEO of a public utility prior to joining Itron.
Aravind Yarlagadda Senior Vice President, Outcomes
Aravind Yarlagadda joined Itron in September 2018 as senior vice president and general manager of the outcomes business. In this role, he is responsible for Itron’s software and services offerings, globally. He has more than 20 years of experience in product management, product development, sales, marketing and business development. Holding various senior management roles, Aravind helped drive the growth of Schneider Electric’s software business, where he led cross-functional organizations that served industrial manufacturing, infrastructure and utilities customers. Aravind has a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He also received a Master of Business Administration from University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Texas A&M University.
Greg Richards Senior Vice President, Global Product Development
Greg Richards assumed the role of senior vice president of Product Development at Itron in March 2018. In this role, Greg oversees a global team of highly skilled engineers, architects, program managers and software developers with a common goal of bringing high quality products to Itron’s customers faster and at a superior total cost of ownership. Previously, Greg served at Itron’s vice president of DevOps.

With his nearly 30 years of experience in the technology industry, Greg is leading the development of innovative new solutions and services that will help cities around the world manage and use water and energy more resourcefully.

Prior to joining Itron, Greg served as vice president of Americas Technology Services for Hewlett Packard. Greg joined Hewlett Packard in 2011 after holding leadership positions at Oracle/Sun, including managing director of Professional Services for the Asia Pacific region.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University and a Masters Certificate in project management from The George Washington University.
Don Reeves Senior Vice President, Services and Delivery
Don Reeves was named senior vice president of services and delivery in August 2018. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing delivery teams,managed services operations and customer support on a global basis. Don has over 25 years of experience in high-technology leadership. Don joined Itron in January 2018 as a part of Itron’s acquisition of Silver Spring Networks, where he served as chief technology officer, launched the company’s hosting business, led the worldwide delivery organization and led the R&D and managed services teams. Don received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dennis Faerber Senior Vice President, Supply Chain
As Itron's senior vice president of supply chain, Dennis Faerber is responsible for overseeing global supply chain and order fulfillment operations. He leads the procurement, production and logistics of all hardware products as well as develops the supply chain strategies and plans in support of Itron’s global business.

Dennis has held leadership positions over the past 17 years in the technology and manufacturing sectors and has been instrumental in developing operations strategies and executing transformational global supply chain management and manufacturing and distribution plans. Most recently, Dennis was the senior vice president of global operations at Intermec Technology where he helped define and execute a four-year operations transformation strategy.

Dennis received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Missouri at Rolla.
Simon Pontin Chief Technology Officer
Simon Pontin was named Chief Technology Officer in January 2011. Simon joined Itron (then Schlumberger Electricity) in 1989 after graduating from Aston University in England with a degree in electromechanical engineering. He showed natural leadership in his first role, participating in the design of various solid-state metering developments in the United Kingdom. In 2006, he took the helm in developing Itron's smart grid solution, OpenWay®. Today, as CTO of Itron, Simon is uniquely equipped to ensure that Itron's technology helps utilities solve some of their most pressing challenges.
Raj Vaswani Strategic Advisor
Raj Vaswani is a strategic advisor at Itron. Raj joined Itron in January 2018 via its acquisition of Silver Spring Networks, where he was co-founder and chief technology officer. Raj has more than 15 years of innovation, product development and product management experience in the Internet, software and networking industries. Raj received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Washington.
Maitrayee Ganguly Vice President, Global Quality
Maitrayee Ganguly joined Itron in October 2018 as Itron’s vice president of global quality. Maitrayee brings a wealth of experience in quality management systems, methodologies and best practices over the full product lifecycle from product development through production and post sales. She has worked in a global capacity leading quality and performance excellence functions in the Semiconductor & Electronics Equipment, automotive, medical, industrial, consumer and telecommunications industries.

Recently, Maitrayee has served as Vice President of Quality and Reliability within Patriarch Partners, LLC, for over ten years. She managed all quality functions globally, established quality policies, compliance standards and product reliability roadmaps. Previously she has had senior management and quality leadership roles in ASML and Tata Group of Companies.

Maitrayee has a Master of Science degree in Quality Engineering and Applied Statistics from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MBA in corporate finance and strategy from the University of Connecticut.

Board of Directors

Lynda L. Ziegler Chair of the Board
Lynda L. Ziegler (age 66) has been a director since February 2013 and was elected Vice Chair of the Board in April 2015, and then Chair of the Board in September 2016. In September 2012, Ms. Ziegler retired from Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the largest electric utilities in the U.S. (and a customer of Itron), whose parent is Edison International. During her tenure at SCE, she held various management positions related to customer program offerings, customer service, development, communication and implementation of energy efficiency programs, marketing and communication of smart meters, and generally led all aspects of delivering power to almost 5 million customers. From 2006 to 2011, Ms. Ziegler was Senior Vice President of Customer Service, and from January 1, 2011 until her retirement in September of 2012, she served as Executive Vice President of Power Delivery Services, where she was responsible for transmission and distribution construction and maintenance, customer service, information technology (IT), and support services including procurement and real estate management. In the past, she has served on the advisory committee for power delivery and utilization at the Electric Power Research Institute and was a founding member of the Board of the Association for Women in Water and Energy.

Ms. Ziegler brings to the Board her extensive background with public utilities, especially with her recent responsibilities in the industry related to smart meters and customer relations from the utility perspective. Her breadth of knowledge of software services, transmission and distribution construction and maintenance, IT, and business development adds to the diverse business backgrounds of our other members of the Board.
Thomas S. Glanville Director
Thomas S. Glanville (age 60) has been a director since May 2001. Since 2003, Mr. Glanville has been the Managing Partner of Eschelon Advisors, LP and affiliates, providing energy and private equity investment and advisory services. From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Glanville served as Vice President of Technology and New Ventures for Reliant Energy, Inc., one of the world’s largest international energy services companies, and its affiliate, Reliant Resources, Inc. In September 2015, he was appointed to the board of directors of Mitcham Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: “MIND”), a publicly traded technology company for the oceanographic, hydrographic, defense, seismic, and security industries, where he also serves as chair of the board’s audit committee. He currently serves on the board of directors of a privately-held oil and gas exploration and production company, Strand Energy, LLC. He served as Chairman of the Texas TriCities Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (Houston, Austin, San Antonio) from 2011 through 2016.

Mr. Glanville brings to the Board financial expertise, industry-related experience through his association with Reliant Energy, energy sector exposure through the Eschelon entities and Mitcham Industries, and technology skills that include his involvement with electric metering studies and research while he was Vice President of Technology and New Ventures for Reliant Energy.
Frank M. Jaehnert Director
Frank M. Jaehnert (age 61) has been a director since May 2015. From 1995 to his retirement in 2013, Mr. Jaehnert held several roles with Brady Corporation (NYSE: “BRC”), a publicly traded manufacturer and marketer of complete solutions that identify and protect premises, products and people. These roles included President and Chief Executive Officer from 2003 to 2013, Senior Vice President and President of a business line from 2002 to 2003, and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1996 to 2001. Prior to joining Brady Corporation, Mr. Jaehnert held various financial and management positions for Robert Bosch GmbH, a German multinational engineering and electronics company. Mr. Jaehnert serves on the board of directors of Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: “NDSN”), which he joined in 2012, and Briggs & Stratton Corporation (NYSE: “BGG”), which he joined in 2014. NDSN and BGG are both publicly traded large manufacturing companies. Mr. Jaehnert also serves on the audit committees of both BGG and NDSN.

Mr. Jaehnert has extensive, broad-based international business and executive management and leadership experience. Mr. Jaehnert’s diverse background, his experience with geographic expansion and acquisitions, as well as his experience serving on other public company boards bring valuable perspectives to the Board.
Diana D. Tremblay Director
Diana D. Tremblay (age 59) has been a director since May 2015. In September 2017, Ms. Tremblay retired from General Motors Company, the motor vehicle manufacturer and distributor multinational corporation (NYSE: “GM”). She had been with that company since 1977, and during her tenure at GM, she held a variety of positions in engineering, manufacturing and labor relations, including direct operational responsibility for over 50,000 employees. From July 2013 to her retirement, Ms. Tremblay served as Vice President of Global Business Services, where she was charged with streamlining administrative processes around the world to improve service quality, reduce complexity, and achieve cost efficiencies in such areas as finance, human resources, real estate, purchasing, asset management, and master data. From December 2009 to July 2013, Ms. Tremblay held the position of Vice President of Manufacturing at GM.

Ms. Tremblay brings to the Board her broad business experience that includes her previous roles at GM as an engineer, plant manager, head of manufacturing, and lead labor relations negotiator, which together with her knowledge of business services and global manufacturing processes, provide additional international, administrative and manufacturing perspectives to the Board.
Jerome J. Lande Director
Jerome J. Lande (age 43) has been a director since December 2015. Mr. Lande joined Scopia Capital Management LP (Scopia), an asset management firm and one of Itron’s principal minority shareholders, as the Head of Special-Situation Investments in April 2016 and currently serves as a Partner at Scopia. He was previously the Managing Partner of Coppersmith Capital Management LLC (Coppersmith), an asset management firm focused on equity investing in small to mid-cap markets and in long-term value creation, which he co-founded in April 2012. Prior to co-founding Coppersmith, Mr. Lande was a partner of MCM Capital Management, LLC, the general partner of MMI Investments, LP, a small-cap investment fund founded in 1996 to employ private equity investing methodologies in public equities, and where Mr. Lande oversaw research, trading and activism from 1998 to 2011. Prior to that time, he was associated with other equity investment firms where he was directly involved with corporate development as well as equity growth. Mr. Lande is a member of the board of directors of CONMED Corporation (NASDAQ: “CNMD”), a public global medical technology company, where he also serves on the compensation and strategy committees.

Mr. Lande brings to the board financial and investing acumen gained through his many years of experience at several equity investment firms, including his current employer Scopia (and affiliates), who is a principal minority shareholder of the Company.
Timothy M. Leyden Director
Timothy M. Leyden (age 67) has been a director since March 2015. Mr. Leyden retired in 2015 after eight years with Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: “WDC”), a company that manufactures hard-disk drives used to record, store, and recall volumes of data. He served as WDC’s Chief Financial Officer from 2013 until January 2015, President of Western Digital, one of WDC’s two operating subsidiaries, from 2012 to 2013, its Chief Operating Officer from 2010 to 2012, and its Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2010. Prior to joining WDC, Mr. Leyden was Vice President and then Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for Sage Software PLC, a customized software solutions business, from 2001 to 2007. Mr. Leyden serves on the board of directors of Oakgate Technology, Inc., a privately-held company that provides test, validation and benchmarking products and services to the storage industry. He also serves on the board of directors of Virtium LLC, a private company that provides storage and memory innovation for various embedded industrial segments.

Mr. Leyden brings to the Board a mix of financial and operational experience (in both hardware and software industries), in addition to a background that includes mergers and acquisitions and integration experience related to the assimilation of acquired companies into both WDC and Sage Software. His prior experience with overseeing global manufacturing, engineering, marketing, and sales operations, when combined with his financial and accounting background, adds a depth of international insight to the Board.

Philip C. Mezey Director
Philip C. Mezey (age 59) has been a director since 2013. Effective January 1, 2013, he was elected Itron’s President and Chief Executive Officer, and was previously President and Chief Operating Officer of Itron’s Energy segment from March 2011 until December 31, 2012. Mr. Mezey joined Itron in March 2003 as Managing Director of Software Development for Itron’s Energy Management Solutions Group as part of Itron’s acquisition of Silicon Energy Corp., where he had most recently served as its Senior Vice President of Product Development and Strategy. Mr. Mezey was promoted to Group Vice President and Manager of Software Solutions in 2004. In 2005, he became Senior Vice President Software Solutions, and in 2007 Mr. Mezey became Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Itron North America.

Mr. Mezey brings to the Board more than thirteen years of experience in research and development, manufacturing, and business development for metering software and related services. While at Silicon Energy Corp., he managed the marketing department and was directly involved with a number of mergers and acquisitions prior to Itron’s acquisition of that company. During his tenure at Itron, he has had extensive exposure to international systems and utilities throughout the world, and, as the only employee director, Mr. Mezey provides the Board with valuable insight into management’s views and perspectives, as well as the day-to-day operations of Itron.
Daniel S. Pelino Director
Daniel S. Pelino (age 61) has been a director since November 2014. Mr. Pelino retired from International Business Machines Corp., the multinational technology company (NYSE: “IBM”) in November 2016, where he had been employed since 1980, most recently as General Manager of IBM’s public sector business, a position he had held since 2012. The public sector business focused on government, education, healthcare and life sciences industries, including IBM’s Smarter Cities initiative. While at IBM, Mr. Pelino held several other positions of escalating responsibility focused on helping organizations, states, and countries transform and digitize their technology systems. Mr. Pelino currently serves on the executive committee for the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative and on the board of directors of the Healthcare Executive Network.

Mr. Pelino provides the Board with a strong background in technology, brand marketing, and business innovation and development. With his worldwide experience in governmental business and strategies, he brings a current global business perspective to the Board. In addition, Mr. Pelino’s knowledge of digitized services created for economic development adds invaluable insight to the Company’s smart metering systems and strategies for its utility customers.
Gary E. Pruitt Director
Gary E. Pruitt (age 69) has been a director since 2006. In 2010, Mr. Pruitt retired as Chairman of Univar N.V. (Univar), a multi-national chemical distribution company based in Bellevue, Washington, and retired as Chief Executive Officer in October 2009. Before joining Univar in 1978, Mr. Pruitt was a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen from 1973 through 1977. Mr. Pruitt is a member of the board of directors of Public Storage, Inc. (a real estate investment trust specializing in self-storage facilities) (NYSE: “PSA”) and PS Business Parks, Inc. (a full service real estate company) (NYSE: “PSB”). Mr. Pruitt is a Lead Independent Trustee of PSA and also serves as a member of its audit committee and nominating/corporate governance committee. He also is a member of the audit committee of PSB.

Mr. Pruitt brings to the Board his experience as a chief executive officer of a multi-national company and all the business attributes required of that position, along with operational and manufacturing expertise through his various other management positions held with Univar. His public accounting financial background and other public board experiences provide strategic and global perspectives on our business as well.
