Cyient Wins Itron’s Ignite Innovation Challenge with Outage Management App

App builds on the power of the Itron Riva platform to improve outage notifications

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Oct. 18, 2016 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that Cyient, a global provider of engineering, manufacturing, data analytics, networks and operations solutions, has won Itron’s Ignite Innovation Challenge at Itron Utility Week in Orlando, Florida. The contest invited IoT developers to create a connected, resourceful solution to address pressing challenges that is built on the Itron Riva™ platform, the first-of-its-kind distributed intelligence platform that supports sensing technologies and dynamic applications at the device level.

Developed by Cyient’s team, the Cyient Power Chargers, the winning project is a mobile and web application for outage management that predicts and proactively communicates outages to customers. The application enables immediate communication to affected customers on outage incidents and restoration status, while also enabling customers to report an outage. It provides a visual look and feel of the outage and restored areas for both the consumers and field crew. The utility’s operations can use the near real-time outage notifications to quickly predict fault locations.

“Outage management is a challenging business operations task and most utilities respond reactively. Our app predicts and proactively communicates outages and manages estimated restoration times to achieve enhanced customer satisfaction. This is made possible using the Itron Riva platform’s edge computing capabilities for near real-time outage communication,” said Jaishankar Jayaraman, contest team leader and head of Cyient’s North America Solutions.

“Itron is pleased to announce Cyient as the winner of our Ignite Innovation Challenge. Using the Itron Riva platform and the power of the Internet of Things, Cyient put technology to use to address today’s energy resource challenges,” said Dr. Roberto Aiello, managing director of the Itron Idea Labs. “Ignite Innovation Challenge is a great example of how third party developers can utilize Itron’s flexible, multi-party platform to create numerous possibilities for realizing the promise of the IoT to empower smarter utilities and smarter cities worldwide.”
