White House Recognizes Industry Leader Itron for Pledging to Improve STEM Curriculum

Forthcoming educational app inspires resourceful use of energy and water

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — March 28, 2016 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, and Disco Learning Media, a full service creative agency and educational consulting firm, announced that on Tuesday, March 22, the White House Water Summit recognized Itron’s partnership with University of Texas professor Michael E. Webber, an expert on the water-energy nexus, to create and distribute an interactive STEM app that teaches key concepts about water and energy for K-12, colleges, industry and the general public. Itron understands the critical needs for developing the STEM workforce of the future and knows that the challenges and opportunities of the water-energy nexus lack public awareness.

The goal of these tools is to improve water and energy literacy, encourage conservation and resourcefulness, and inspire the next generation of innovators. This curriculum will combine text with multimedia components such as audio and video, along with dozens of interactive exercises, maps, and games. Working with community partners nationwide, Itron will make the app-based curriculum available free of charge with a goal of reaching at least 10,000 students in 2016, with plans to expand globally in 2017. Disco Learning Media will build the app and enable distribution across a variety of different platforms.
