Itron Receives Energy and Water Accreditation with South Africa's Education and Training Authority
Accreditation establishes the Itron Learning University as a critical part of training and skill development in the growing energy and water sectors of South Africa
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. and CAPE TOWN, South Africa—Oct. 4, 2013—Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) announced today that the Itron Learning University (ILU) in South Africa has received accreditation from the Energy Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA). This accreditation establishes Itron as a critical part of a drive to develop a highly skilled workforce in South Africa.
The ILU, based in Cape Town, provides hands-on training courses to Itron customers, enabling them to implement and manage electricity and water technology systems, including metering, prepayment systems and data management software. Itron product specialists teach the courses and are available to answer questions and provide support to help learners develop specialized skills. Itron has earned the EWSETA accreditation for its strong skills development program and its commitment to training local customers in Africa.
The EWSETA program is dedicated to reducing unemployment by working with businesses and institutions and aligning training and skill development with work and resources needs. The program aims to help the nearly 4.3 million people who are unemployed throughout South Africa and the estimated 6,000 to 7,000 unemployed graduates throughout the country. The accreditation establishes that the Itron Learning University is aligned with EWSETA's mission to help facilitate world-class skills for energy and water, reinforcing Itron asleading brand in the region and a regional leader demonstrating our commitment to the communities we work and live in.
"The quality of our training is critical to the success of our implementations and ongoing partnerships with our clients," said Damian Padachi, managing director of Itron, South Africa. "We're honored to receive official accreditation from EWSETA recognizing our skills training for the value it provides to our customers and the overall job market in South Africa. We remain committed to improving the communities where we work and live."
