Itron Enables Smart Gas Payment for South Africa's EnviroFuel

Itron services and technology enables more efficient use of gas in South Africa

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—Aug. 6, 2013—Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) announced today that it has delivered its smart payment solution for gas to EnviroFuel, a private gas utility, as a part of an initiative to provide alternative energy sources to Waterfall Country Estate, in Johannesburg, South Africa. A partnership between EnviroFuel and Sasol Homegas, the initiative allows residents to be energy efficient and live a greener lifestyle, while easing the burden on the power grid.

Itron's solution consists of 2,000 gas meters and a full online prepayment vending and management system that allows consumers to pay for gas online via credit card.This solution gives residents of Waterfall Country Estate, an environmentally friendly residential development, convenient access to gas with prepayment meters. With increased availability and simple access, residents are better equipped to effectively manage their gas consumption. As a part of the project,Itron was responsible for solution installation and training and will provide ongoing prepaid vending services in its world class managed services environment.
