Funding Guidelines

Qualified nonprofit organizations are welcome to apply for funding from Itron. After a short eligibility assessment, your charitable organization will be able to submit an application requesting a corporate grant, event sponsorship or in-kind support. Please read the program guidelines below to ensure your organization meets our eligibility requirements. If you have questions about the application, please feel free to contact us.

We support global, nonprofit organizations that focus on STEM-based educational initiatives, the environment, and community vitality. This support includes a combination of corporate giving and in-kind contributions. We strategically align with projects and programs that invest in our local communities and that share our vision for a more resourceful world.

Eligibility Requirements

Itron considers several factors when determining the eligibility of an organization or program. Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for funding:

  • Must be tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code and not classified as a private foundation
  • Demonstrate sustainable, measurable positive impacts that align with Itron's philanthropic focus areas — STEM based education, environmental stewardship and community vitality
  • Must benefit communities and citizens in geographic areas where Itron employees live and work
  • Note: Priority is given to organizations in which Itron employees are involved
Itron makes every effort to direct contributions to where they can have the greatest impact, often addressing the most critical needs. The following organizations and programs are not eligible for grant funding:

  • Organizations located outside Itron's geographic locations
  • Individuals; teams or extra-curricular school events; fundraising events; trips or tours; religious, veterans, political or fraternal organizations
  • Organizations that discriminate based on race, color, religion, creed, age, sex or national origin
  • Organizations without valid 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
  • National health organizations (or their local affiliates) or research/disease advocacy groups
  • Memorial campaigns

Application Process

All requests for funding must be submitted through this application process. Requests for support should be made a minimum of 90 days in advance of the event or activity. Applications are reviewed monthly and every effort is made to respond in a timely manner.

Itron will require agency profile information, such as:

  • Organization name and address
  • EIN or tax identification number
  • Telephone number and email of principal contact
  • Amount of funding requested
  • Brief overview of the program or event for which funding is requested, including purpose, targeted population, evaluation strategies, anticipated results, list of other organizations providing support and timeline.
  • Current or past Itron involvement, if any, in the organization or program, including employee volunteers, board members, etc.

Itron does not guarantee contributions from year to year; organizations must re-apply for funding consideration for each event, every year.
