Itron to Help Improve Efficiency of Natural Gas Delivery in Bangladesh

Itron gas smart payment solution to help largest natural gas distributor in Bangladesh conserve resources and protect revenue

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — June 26, 2014 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company, announced today that Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL), the largest natural gas distributor in Bangladesh and subsidiary of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), has selected Itron to help improve the efficiency of natural gas consumption in the Dhaka metropolitan area. As a part of its "Supply Efficiency Improvement" project, which is sponsored by the Asian Development Bank, TGTDCL will use Itron's gas smart payment solution todecrease gas wastage, protect revenue and reduce apparent losses.

With the smart payment solution, consumers pay in advance for the gas they consume. This "pay-as-you-use" method assists in educating consumers about the value of gas resources, which will result in reduced wastage. TGTDCL customers will benefit from the convenience of recharging their payment cards at several points of sale located throughout Bangladesh's capital city of Dhaka. With this ease of access, consumers will be empowered to effectively manage their gas consumption and conserve gas resources. The solution will help TGTDCL monitor, understand and manage consumption as well as identify theft, improve cash flow and increase management efficiency.

The turn-key smart payment solution includes gas prepayment meters, kiosk vending terminals, IT infrastructure and prepayment software. The solution will be installed over the next nine months.

"We look forward to working with Itron for our Supply Efficiency Improvement project because of the company's strong reputation in the utility industry and extensive experience delivering smart payment solutions," said engineer Syed Manzur Ilahi, project director at TGTDCL. "With Itron's smart payment solution, we can better manage our gas supplies and provide improved service to our customers."

"Itron's proven smart payment solution will help TGTDCL ensure natural gas is used, paid for and managed efficiently. We are pleased to help the largest gas distributor in Bangladesh simplify its operations and conserve resources," said Malcolm Munro, Itron senior director of sales for Gas in Asia-Pacific. "By working with utilities like TGTDCL to improve the delivery of natural gas, we are helping create a more resourceful world."
