Itron Hits Industry Milestone, Provides Solar Monitoring for 50,000 Homes and Businesses

Itron leads North America with technology of choice for solar net metering service

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—Oct. 16, 2013—Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) today announced that its solar cellular-based monitoring solution is being utilized by more than 50,000 homes and businesses through leading solar providers. Itron's solar offering is ideal for monitoring and net metering the energy production of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic systems. This milestone establishes Itron as the leading provider of revenue-grade solar net metering service in North America.

Itron's solar offering, which includes Itron's solar meter embedded with a cellular communications module and Itron Managed Services for hosting, provides an accurate, reliable way to measure and manage solar production data, which is often distributed across a wide geographic area. The meters leverage secure and simple cellular communication networks. Installation is simply "plug and play" with streamlined activation. Itron's solar solution also includes Itron Managed Services for ongoing monitoring of production data, simplifying deployment and lowering the overall total cost of ownership for solar providers.

Itron's customer Sunrun, the nation's leading home solar company, was the recipient of the 50,000th solar meter. "Sunrun has relied on Itron's solar monitoring services to grow our business. The installation is similar to a traditional utility meter, so it is cost-effective, while the cellular connection allows for data communication that doesn't rely on a homeowner's Internet. Itron has been a supportive and collaborative partner, enabling us to provide the best home solar customer experience," said Steve Kent, vice president of service delivery at Sunrun.

"The availability of third-party-owned residential solar systems from companies like Sunrun has driven rapid growth in the solar industry. Itron's solar offering enables third-party solar providers to provide an accurate and simple solution over an existing cellular network link, providing ultimate efficiency and convenience," said Mark de Vere White, president of Itron's electricity business unit. "Itron continues to advance innovation in technology and services to better manage the world's energy and water resources."
