Itron Technology Leveraged for Natural Gas Data Collection in Ukraine

Donetzkoblgas pilots Itron's meter reading system to improve accuracy and efficiency

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—Jan. 23, 2013—Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) announced today that it is working in collaboration with Donetzkoblgas, Ukraine's gas company, to implement a walk-by meter reading system for more than 150 of its residential gas customers. This is the first automated meter reading system installed in the country and it serves as the initial step in migrating from manual meter reading to automated meter reading.

"Our goal is to improve the effectiveness of our current meter reading process by reducing manual reading errors and billing inaccuracies," said Mass Nikolay, CEO of Dontzkoblgas. "We trust Itron's technology to deliver accurate information so we can provide our customers with the best service possible."

By automating the meter reading process, Donetzkoblgas can reduce the likelihood of human errors, increase the accuracy of monthly bills, solve problematic access to meters and ensure data is collected securely.

"Itron pioneered automated meter reading. We've delivered systems to thousands of utilities and we're proud to play a role in the Ukraine's automation program," said Ivanushkin Alexander, sales manager for Itron Gas in Ukraine.
