Kelly Bauman is the Manager of Distribution Protection & Control at Entergy.

Kelly has experience in many operational aspects of electric utilities including distribution, substations, transmission, and systems operations control centers.

Kelly manages distribution system protection and management of all distribution field controls. He is also responsible for the Distribution Automation capital project at Entergy consisting of roughly $500M spend through 2024. The DA program includes deployment of over 2,500 new reclosers, 10,000 Relays and APs, smart line sensors, and new technology system deployments such as Advanced DMS including FLISR, CVR, and VVO. Kelly is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Kimberly Britton

General Session
Kimberly M. Britton has decades of experience leading organizations in the sectors of energy, government, health care, and the arts with emphasis in nonprofits, government relations, land use politics, public and community relations as both a founder and senior leader.

Her areas of expertise include energy trends, strategy, visioning, cross-functional teams, negotiation and building organizations from the ground up.

Currently, she is the Chief Executive Officer of EPIcenter, a nonprofit created by CPS Energy, OCI Solar, Itron and Landis+Gyr. EPIcenter propels energy innovation and thought for our global future with a think tank, incubator and accelerator, strategic partnerships, and critical conversations around energy.

Britton is also the co-founder of a collaboration of public power utilities designed to enable cooperation among the entities and to harness the collective might of public power in the state.

She serves as a member of the Denton’s Smart Cities Think Tank and represented San Antonio in Public Utilities Fortnightly’s list of Smartest Communities 2019. In addition, Britton was named an awardee of the San Antonio Business Journal’s Women in Leadership Award 2021.

She is a Fort Worth native and graduate of Texas Christian University residing in San Antonio with her husband Gary Britton, principal of his own executive coaching and consulting firm, and their very personable dog Ruby.
Tom Deitrich President and CEO, Itron
Keynote Presenter
Tom Deitrich was appointed president and chief executive officer and named to Itron's board of directors on Aug. 6, 2019. He joined Itron in 2015 as executive vice president and COO and has played a major role in shaping the company’s strategy to partner with cities and utilities to deliver industrial IoT solutions.

Tom has more than 25 years of experience in global operations at leading technology firms and has held numerous executive management positions where he led business-level strategies that transformed and significantly improved business results. He has extensive experience in product management, research and development, supply chain management and business development in several industries, including industrial equipment, telecommunications and semiconductors.

Before joining Itron, Tom was senior vice president and general manager for Digital Networking at Freescale Semiconductor. Prior to Freescale, Tom worked for Flextronics International, Ericsson Mobile Communications and General Electric Corporation.
Ed De Varona
Ed De Varona Vice President, Transmission & Substation Power Delivery, FPL
Big Picture Session: Resilience & Reliability
Ed De Varona is responsible for transmission & substation system operations, technology, compliance, reliability, construction, maintenance and restoration of service for FPL, as well as transmission and substation operations for NextEra Energy Transmission assets across North America including Lone Star Transmission in Texas. In this role, Ed oversees the daily operations and planning of these assets to ensure safety, reliability and compliance to regulatory requirements.

Prior to his current role, Ed served as Executive Director in the Transmission Business Management organization within FPL’s affiliate company, NextEra Energy Resources (NEER.) In this role, Ed coordinated all aspects of the interconnection process to ensure successful integration of the NEER wind and solar assets on the nation’s electrical grid.

Mr. De Varona previously serve as Senior Director of Emergency Preparedness at FPL where he oversaw all plans and processes related to emergency response, event mitigation and recovery from hurricane and other severe storm conditions, grid capacity shortfall and emergency events, and cyber and physical threats to the FPL and NextEra systems. The role was also responsible for corporate business continuity plans across the NextEra Energy enterprise.

Ed also served as director of operations for NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET) directing the company through the construction and commissioning of the Lone Star Transmission system in Texas including creation of grid control centers, energy management systems and successful commissioning of Lone Star’s 345 kV transmission lines and substation system which forms part of the Texas Competitive Renewable Energy Zone project.

Mr. DeVarona received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Florida in 1994, and is a graduate of the NextEra Energy Leadership Development Program – Leadership for the Next Era. He is married with two children.

Marina Donovan has more than 20 years of global technology marketing and public relations experience with a background in data security, networking and mobile. She joined Itron as vice president of global marketing & public affairs in January 2018. Prior to joining Itron, she was vice president of marketing for Silver Spring Networks, where Marina led all aspects of outbound marketing including branding and corporate positioning, demand creation, events, product marketing, public relations and web properties. Prior to joining Silver Spring, she held executive marketing positions at IronKey by Imation, Syniverse, VeriSign and RSA Security. Marina holds a Bachelor of Arts in public relations from San Jose State University.
Gordon Feller

Since arriving in Silicon Valley in 1983, from inside the executive suite he’s developed ambitious projects aimed at solving some of the world’s most complex problems.

Current and past clients include World Bank, EY, ThomsonReuters, IHS Markit, World Economic Forum, Ford Motor Company, Stanford University, IBM, The Financial Times, Apple, International Telecommunications Union, International Standards Organization, Chevron, Bechtel, Lockheed, The Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, United Nations, national governments (Germany, Canada, US), Reuters, and many others. From 2010 to 2017, he served as Director of Urban Innovation at Cisco Systems HQ. He founded Meeting of the Minds in the 1990s to harness the power of a global leadership network building innovation-fueled sustainable urban futures.

Gordon was appointed by the Obama/Biden White House to serve on the US Federal Comm. established by the US Congress to accelerate tech breakthroughs. Gordon served as a Global Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. He sits on numerous corporate and non-profit boards. Gordon’s first published article appeared in a journal published by the World Policy Institute (NYC) in 1979. Since then he’s published more than 400 magazine articles.

Jim Kilmer

Jim Kilmer is Vice President, Global Enterprise for Verizon Business Group. Verizon Business Group delivers mission-critical solutions to businesses worldwide and operates America’s most reliable wireless network and premier all-fiber network. The company helps businesses, governments, and communities design, build and operate Network as a Service solutions, advanced mobility cloud first environments and industry leading 5G / Mobile Edge/IOT platform that transform and innovate client value. His current role leading Premier Accounts covers some of Verizon’s largest enterprise relationships, with over $3 billion of revenue responsibility.

Jim has been with Verizon for over 30 years. He has consistently demonstrated the ability to create culture, build teams, focus expectations, lead engagement, develop leaders, execute business plans, manage P&Ls and solidify executive customer relationships.

Prior to his current role, Jim led a vertical segment team that enabled infrastructure transformation and digital experience specifically for customers in the Automotive, Manufacturing, Energy, and Utility industries. Additionally, Jim owned responsibility for the U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese Multinational Corporations.

Jim was the Managing Director of Sales Operations where he led an organization committed to enabling sales success. His team drove deal execution, streamlined processes, and implemented a programmatic approach to successful sales management. For many years, Jim was an Area Vice President of Sales in the Mid Atlantic territory in the United States where he was responsible for top enterprise customers in this market.

Jim is a graduate of Cornell University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

Today, he lives with his wife, Cindy, in Arlington, Virginia and has two college aged children. He is a committed supporter of the Father Mckenna Center, enjoys travel, gardening and playing basketball.
Matt Lampe

Matt Lampe is the Chief Security Officer at 3Insys, a software company focused on integration for critical infrastructure.

For more than 25 years, Matt Lampe has brought technology leadership to organizations facing significant challenges. His public service as a CIO includes digital transformations within some of the largest municipalities in the Western U.S., with technology transformations, consolidation of technology governance, technology strategy development, and infrastructure and application 2innovation. Lampe has delivered award-winning projects for customer experience and broadband access in utility, public safety, and general government. He has demonstrated expertise in cyber security, directing the development of information security programs for entities with essential service and critical infrastructure responsibilities, addressing compliance with NERC, PCI DSS, FACTA, DOJ, and HPPA, and represented public utilities in developing the NIST critical infrastructure protection framework.
John Marcolini

John Marcolini has more than 20 years of product management, business development and customer delivery experience with deep technical knowledge of networking, radio frequency technologies and IoT. John has also spent many years working with utility customers to deliver and implement complex product deployments.

In July 2020, he was named senior vice president of networked solutions. As the head of Itron’s Networked Solutions product business unit, he is responsible for the financial performance, product development, marketing and overall strategy for Itron’s networking platforms and smart city solutions, globally.

In his previous role as the vice president of product management, he was responsible for product strategy and lifecycle management across Itron’s smart energy, smart city and IoT portfolios. Prior to joining Itron, John held senior product management roles with Silver Spring Networks and numerous other technology-based companies.

John attended Boston University’s Master of Science in Networking and Security program and received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from SUNY College at Buffalo.
Jim Meehan
Jim Meehan Global Investigation Senior Manager, Global Security Services, Verizon

Jim Meehan is the Global Investigation Senior Manager for Global Security Services. He oversees the Verizon Threat Intelligence Team as well as the Dark Web Hunting Team which responds to cyber investigations throughout the world.

Prior to working at Verizon, Jim worked with the United States Secret Service. With 27+ years of law enforcement experience, his career spanned numerous disciplines within the United States Secret Service including supervision over technical security countermeasures and tactics. He served in a supervisory capacity on the Presidents Protective Detail during which he advanced to the principal assignment on the President’s Counter Assault Team. In his last assignment with the agency he was the Deputy Special Agent in Charge of Cyber Operations. In that position, he supervised and engaged in historical transnational cybercrime investigations, oversaw the Critical Systems Protection Program as well as all of the Secret Service network intrusion and forensic examination programs.

He continues to cultivate key partnerships with members of government, academia, private industry, national and international law enforcement entities. He is a prominent speaker on transnational investigations both domestically and internationally.

Tom Rand is Co-Founder & Managing Partner of ArcTern Ventures – a global cleantech venture fund - and sits on the board of a number of clean energy companies and organizations. He’s also an author and public advocate focused on accelerating the global transition to a low-carbon economy. Tom also developed Planet Traveler, an energy-efficient hotel project in downtown Toronto.

His first book, “Kick the Fossil Fuel Habit” was published in early 2010 (winner of the 2011 Whitepine Non-Fiction award) and his second – “Waking the Frog” - became a bestseller in Spring 2014. His third, “Climate Capitalism: Pragmatic Solutions for Perilous Times,” was released early 2020.

Tom holds a BASc in electrical engineering (U of Waterloo), an MSc in philosophy of science (University of London and LSE) and an MA and PhD in philosophy (U of Toronto). Tom is an Action Canada Fellow, has advised both provincial and federal governments on climate & cleantech policy and is a regular contributor on Canada’s leading op-ed pages and television screens.
Farah Saeed

Farah Saeed is an industry expert with nearly 20 years of consulting, project management and fulfillment expertise focused on power and energy equipment and services. Saeed currently serves as Research Director Digital Grid.

In her current role, Saeed works closely with OEMs to validate market opportunities and assess risks, providing a deep understanding of business issues facing mature as well as emerging energy markets and technologies. She also specializes in forecasting models and customer survey designs centered on regional and geographic trends, while keeping a pulse on disruptive trends and technologies that are influencing the competitive environment.

Saeed’s industry expertise includes extensive experience in high-growth and emerging power and energy devices, such as transmission and distribution equipment. This includes IT/OT, power distribution equipment, demand side management, home automation, smart meters, related network infrastructure, and distributed generation.

She is a recognized leader with deep expertise in T&D engineering, system planning, field operations, control center oversight and emergency preparedness/business resiliency. Katie holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University and is a Registered Professional Engineer (Electrical) in the state of California. Previously based in San Diego, Katie now resides in Houston, Texas.

Denise is a Lead Facilitator at St. Norbert College as part of the School of Business’s Center of Exceptional Leadership and also an Instructor for the Cardinal Stritch University Mission Fuel Leadership Program. She serves on numerous non-profit organization’s Board of Directors and Advisory Councils including Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County’s Women United Leadership Council and Cardinal Stritch University College of Business Advisory Council. She is also a certified Master Trainer and 360 Feedback Coach. Denise is a graduate of Cardinal Stritch University in Business Management.

Dr. Michael E. Webber is the Josey Centennial Professor in Energy Resources at the University of Texas at Austin. From September 2018 to August 2021, Webber was also based in Paris, France where he served as the Chief Science and Technology Officer at ENGIE, a global energy & infrastructure services company. Webber's expertise spans research and education at the convergence of engineering, policy, and commercialization on topics related to innovation, energy, and the environment. His latest book Power Trip: the Story of Energy was published May 7, 2019 by Basic Books with an award-winning 6-part companion series that aired on PBS, Amazon Prime and iTunes starting Earth Day 2020. His first book, Thirst for Power: Energy, Water and Human Survival, which addresses the connection between earth's most valuable resources and offers a hopeful approach toward a sustainable future, was published in 2016 by Yale Press and was converted into an hourlong documentary. He was selected as a Fellow of ASME and as a member of the 4th class of the Presidential Leadership Scholars, which is a leadership training program organized by Presidents George W. Bush and William J. Clinton. Webber has authored more than 400 publications, holds 6 patents, and serves on the advisory board for Scientific American. A successful entrepreneur, Webber was one of three founders in 2015 for an educational technology startup, DISCO Learning Media, which was acquired in 2018. Webber holds a B.S. and B.A. from UT Austin, and M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. He was honored as an American Fellow of the German Marshall Fund and an AT&T Industrial Ecology Fellow on four separate occasions by the University of Texas for exceptional teaching.
