Itron Idea Labs Joins Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) to Release First-Ever Zero Emissions 2028 Roadmap for the LA Region

As a Founding Advisory Member of LACI’s Transportation Electrification Partnership, Itron Idea Labs Collaborates with Innovators to Improve Regional Air Quality and Reduce Emissions

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Sept. 12, 2018 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is innovating the way utilities and cities manage energy and water, is pleased to join LACI’s Transportation Electrification Partnership (Partnership) in releasing the Zero Emissions 2028 Roadmap for the greater Los Angeles (LA) region. The release of the Roadmap is the first milestone in this landmark collaboration, which aims to improve regional air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region by rapidly accelerating transportation electrification by the time that LA hosts the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Partnership, whose Leadership Group consists of multiple stakeholders, including Itron customers Southern California Edison and the City of Los Angeles, has articulated a set of aspirational goals in the Roadmap for the accelerated deployment of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure needed in the next decade. The Roadmap also emphasizes that the electricity grid is the lynchpin to our electric transportation future and outlines principles for ensuring that the grid can support the rapid escalation of charging demand. The group’s hope is that the Roadmap will inspire a diversity of stakeholders to think big and align actions going forward.

Over the course of the next year, the Partnership will work together to refine these goals, while also piloting new solutions to move people and goods throughout the region with zero emissions technology.¬ As part of this process, Itron Idea Labs will collaborate with utility customers to surface technologies and business models to help cities accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, enhance resiliency and improve public health.

“The electrification of transportation is one of the biggest steps we can take to reduce carbon emissions and improve regional air quality,” said Roberto Aiello, director, Itron Idea Labs. “We are proud to join this innovative group of stakeholders to create new opportunities for clean energy that can be readily adopted by cities around the world.”

“LACI is pleased to collaborate with Itron Idea Labs, which has a long history of energy innovation,” said Matt Petersen, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator. “We look forward to working together to move towards the goal and targets outlined in the Roadmap, accelerating transportation electrification in the Los Angeles region and setting a strong model for other cities and regions.”
