Itron Acquires SELC, Expanding Smart City Solutions

October 13, 2021

We are delighted to share that Itron has acquired Smart Efficient Lighting Control (SELC), a market leader in the smart lighting controls industry, marking an exciting milestone in Itron's smart cities journey. The acquisition combines a leading Networked Lighting Controller (NLC) supplier with a world-leading provider of smart city and industrial IoT solutions. By adding SELC's products to our solution portfolio, Itron vertically integrates our smart city offerings, increasing Itron's leadership as an end-to-end smart city solution provider. Itron acquired SELC from a subsidiary of Xylem and the agreement is effective immediately.

The acquisition of SELC enables Itron to build on our established smart cities leadership by expanding the capabilities of our smart city platform. Our history together includes several marquee smart lighting deployments around the globe, including our initial deployment in Copenhagen, Denmark, over 500,000 smart nodes at Florida Power & Light and beachhead smart city account in Canberra, Australia. With this acquisition, we'll create additional value and accelerate our ability to deliver new innovative solutions to our customers.

The Itron smart cities platform features an NLC attached to a streetlight fixture or luminaire, which connects wirelessly to Itron's industrial IoT communications network and is managed via Itron's Streetlight.Vision (SLV) central management software. SELC's NLC consists of the core lighting controller and the Itron Network Interface Card (NIC). The acquisition enables the combined company to develop new solutions and bring them to market more efficiently.
