The Itron Utility Week Advisory Board plays an integral role in shaping programming at Itron Utility Week and is a resource for attendees to share feedback about all events. The board is comprised of representatives who serve in a variety of roles across electricity, gas and water utilities. Brad Long is an App Configuration Analyst with Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) metering systems & data analytics (MDSA) team, which serves 1.1 million electric and more than 790,000 natural gas customers in the Puget Sound region. For the last 12 years, Brad has specialized in supporting PSE's MV-90 xi system, which includes validation of billing data for PSE's largest electric customers and AMR network daily consumption reads and daily demand. He has attended four years at the Northwest Electric Meter School where he has gained a great deal of knowledge in the utility industry. Brad has also been a key player in the launch of PSE’s Wholesale Energy Market (EIM) using the MV-90 xi system for validation of all the energy reads provided to California ISO. Serving on the board provides him with "an opportunity to be a part of an amazing group of people, committed to building the BEST conference in the industry!" Participating in board activities and responsibilities has given Brad the opportunity to network with colleagues from not only the U.S., but from all over the world exchanging similar experiences, challenges and solutions.

Brad is the Manager of Meter Reading Technologies for Spire Energy. He manages all AMR/AMI meter reading processes and system support. Brad has 22 years of information technology and operations support experience, including leading Alagasco’s advanced AMR deployment as project manager and lead systems architect. He leverages both his business and information technology backgrounds to streamline processes and constructively apply technology. Brad enjoys serving on the IUW Board because he enjoys the challenge of helping to deliver a conference that offers a broad range of learning and networking opportunities for both first-time and veteran attendees.

Derek LeBoeuf has worked for the City of Ottawa for the past 17 years, as a Business Consultant for Revenue Services. As a municipal owned water utility, the City has 232,000 accounts that are read hourly through a collection engine; information collected is then preserved in a meter data management system. Derek’s most recent project is to upgrade the Itron solution, incorporate meter data events and enable automated read validation. This will support the City’s customers’ ability to view consumption online and to allow them to subscribe for notifications. The drive in Ottawa, the nation’s capital, is to better serve its customers by providing real-time information.

Joe Thomas serves as the Director of Technology Solutions & Support for Duke Energy's Grid Solutions organization, overseeing AMI and meter data management (MDM) planning and operations. Joe’s organization provides business expertise for AMI-related systems, processes and operations for Duke Energy's nearly 2 million AMI meters. His additional responsibilities include directing efforts related to identifying AMI deployment opportunities, developing system improvements and scaling new solutions. Prior to this role, Joe headed the Meter Data Management Project organization where he led the successful implementation of MDM programs. Joe is a graduate of Miami University and is an avid Cincinnati sports fan. Joe, his wife Trena and their two young children are located in the Charlotte, NC area.

Nick joined Southwest Gas Corporation in 2006. During his 10 years of service with the company, he has held the positions of Mapping Specialist, Engineering Technician and now Analyst II in Business Technology Support. In his current position, Nick provides training, Help Desk support, and facilitates business-focused direction as it relates to Meter Reading technology. Routing, rerouting, daily assignment creation, process assessment and the use of related technology are primary areas of focus. He is a graduate of Nevada State College with a bachelor’s of science degree in Business Administration. He is also a graduate from Grand Canyon University with dual master degree, Master of Science in Leadership and MBA.
David Meszaros

David Meszaros is the FirstEnergy Program Director for the PA Smart Meter Implementation Program (SMIP). The SMIP is responsible for implementation of smart meters, network, infrastructure, systems and processes to 2 million customers across four Pennsylvania operating companies in compliance with Act 129 of the PA Public Utility Commission. Dave has been in this position since the end of 2014 after previously serving as the Program Manager for the SMIP for the previous two years. Dave has worked at FirstEnergy or its predecessors for over 29 years, with 20 years spent in IT and in various management roles either in IT, Supply Chain, or Energy Efficiency departments. Dave is a lifetime resident of the Cleveland, OH area and received a Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and MBA from Cleveland State University. He is an avid Cleveland sports fan (Cavs - first championship in 52 years), and enjoys playing golf and traveling with his wife Natalie in his free time.

Gregg Faust has been employed with the City of Cleveland for 31 years. Gregg has served as the manager of meter operations since 2009 which includes the functions of meter reading and meter operations. Prior to this role, he was a project manager for construction projects for both the Division of Water and Department of Port Control (Cleveland Hopkins and Burke Lakefront airports). Cleveland Water has approximately 450,000 active accounts, and is currently in the process of converting its system to AMI using the Itron fixed network solution. The project is approximately 94 percent deployed.

David De Yagher, CPA, is the Senior Operations manager for BC Hydro's Smart Metering and Infrastructure Program. The operations team oversees metering, IPv6 mesh and ICS networks, and meter data management. David has overall responsibility for ensuring that the design, delivery and operations of BC Hydro's smart metering solution align with the business requirements. He also oversees the developments for new applications leveraging the recently deployed networks in support of BC Hydro’s Smart Grid quest. He has been involved with BC Hydro's smart metering project since its inception in October 2005. As a member of various standards and technical committees David has engaged multiple stakeholder and interest groups to present the solution and help drive the project requirements forward.

Bob is the general manager of AMI at DTE Energy. He has more than 39 years of experience at DTE Energy and has worked in various departments, including information systems, supply chain, distribution operations and customer service. He was the customer service lead for Detroit Edison in the merger with Michigan Consolidated Gas in 2001. Bob is responsible for the business case design and implementation of the AMI system for DTE Energy. When fully implemented, the AMI system will provide reads for nearly 4 million electricity and gas meters. Bob is a lifetime resident of Michigan, married for 42 years to his wife Chris, and has two sons. He has a BBA from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Detroit.

Dennis DeMera has worked for the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) for the past ten years. The LVVWD provides water to more than one million people via approximately 386,000 water meters. In his current position, Dennis oversees the field units responsible for meter reading, water conservation, customer service and field services support. Over the past four years Dennis has been on project teams for Field Collection System, Field Deployment Manager, Leak Sensors and Water Analytics.

Tal Centers works for CenterPoint Energy, Inc. headquartered in Houston, Texas. CenterPoint Energy is a domestic energy delivery company that includes electricity transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution, competitive natural gas sales and services. He is the vice president of Safety & Gas System Integrity, with responsibilities for gas LDC engineering, system integrity, gas control, measurement, safety, technical training and environmental oversight. Tal has been with CenterPoint Energy and its predecessor companies for 32 years. Tal is a 1985 graduate of Texas A&M with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and in 2006 Executive MBA graduate, also from Texas A&M. He is in coming chair for the Operations Managing Committee for the American Gas Association. Tal is married with a son and daughter.

Peter is the manager of MDM Operations which is a part of the Customer Service Organization at Georgia Power. He has more than 34 years of experience in software development, metering, and managing various MDM systems across Southern Company. Southern Company (Georgia Power, Alabama Power, Gulf Power and Mississippi Power) processes data from 4.5 million AMI electric meter points using ItronEE and MV90xi. Peter was on the Southern Company design team that partnered with Itron on the development of ItronEE. He is currently the chairman of the Southern Company MDM Technical Advisory Team. Peter grew up in Georgia and attended Southern Polytechnic and Georgia Tech in Atlanta obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering. He and his wife Lisa have been married for 29 years. Their daughter works in accounting and their son is a software developer.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University, Dean began his career at ANCO Engineers, performing a commercial and industrial rebate program for Consumers Energy. He held a variety of roles before beginning his career at Consumers Energy in the Smart Grid (Now Smart Energy) pilot program. Dean is currently the Smart Energy Operations Supervisor, with a team who performs testing of various smart electricity meters and gas communication modules prior to them being deployed across the state of Michigan. In the past eight years, Dean has managed a small team of people that began testing various smart grid solutions in the early pilot phase of the project, through the installation of the first cellular-based smart electric meter to currently over 1.3 million deployed smart electric meters and over 350,000 gas communication modules. Consumers Energy’s mass deployment to over 1.8 million combination customers will end third quarter of 2017, under budget and ahead of the original schedule. Dean also continues to have a lead position in Consumers Energy’s gas AMR solution that is scheduled for deployment to our 1.2 million gas-only customers in 2017.

Gerald “Gerry” Jackson began his career in the utility industry as a Gas Engineer working for Peoples Gas in Chicago, Illinois. He has held many positions which provided him valuable utility experience in areas such as gas distribution pipeline engineering, managing underground construction projects, telemetry and metrology. Gerry is currently the Manager of Measurement and Instrumentation for Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. He has worked closely with Itron over the last five years on many ventures to include piloting an AMI network for Peoples Gas as well as assist in beta testing future ITRON products. Prior to his career with Peoples Gas he worked for Rockwell Collins as an RF Engineer. Gerry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and is a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Shachella James is an accomplished technology professional with well over two decades interfacing with senior business executives, technical teams and operational end-users, making sure no one strays from "due North". She is responsible for business engagement, unified communications, mobile workforce management, mobility strategy, innovation through emerging technologies and end user support. Throughout her career in information technology, consulting, utilities and telecommunications, Shachella has successfully headed endeavors that required implementing AMI systems, disaster recovery for critical business applications, supporting SAP core modules and re-architecting systems, web interaction channels and data structures.

Shachella is a certified technology professional, having earned her undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems from Texas A&M University and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Tracy Tinsley is the Duke Energy AMI Project Director responsible for the AMI Meter Deployment Programs in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Florida. She has 31 years of experience at Duke Energy and held a variety of positions in Fossil, Nuclear, I/T and Corporate Services before joining the Smart Grid organization 9 years ago as it was formed. Tracy initially managed the implementation and growth of the AMI head-end systems as well as the initial AMI deployment projects. Tracy has helped shape Duke Energy’s AMI deployment methodology with her practical operational management experiences, by living through and leveraging many lessons learned, and by managing the many variables that affect Duke’s scaled deployment efforts. Tracy is a Virginia Tech graduate (Go Hokies!), married for 30 years to her Hokie husband, and has 2 amazing daughters who are also Hokie graduates.

Melanie Popovich has been an independent consultant since 2003, providing project management and evaluation services to gas and electric utility distribution companies. Melanie’s clients include Peoples Gas (Pittsburgh), Columbia Gas of PA, Equitable Gas, Dominion- Peoples Gas, National Fuel Gas, UGI, and the Indiana State Gas and Electric Association. She is currently Project Manager of Peoples’ 438,000 Customer AMR Smart Meter initiative in partnership with Itron. Prior to consulting, Melanie spent most of her 30 year career in the natural gas industry holding various executive management positions including Corporate Vice President Customer Service, NiSource, Inc.; Vice President Customer Relations and Marketing, Columbia Gas of PA and MD.; and Director Customer Relations, Columbia Gas of PA. In 2015, Melanie was awarded the Conservation Luminary Award in recognition of her professional efforts in making a significant impact on residential energy and water conservation in low income communities across western Pennsylvania. The award is sponsored by Conservation Consultants, Inc., a nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting responsible residential energy use. Melanie holds a BS in Applied Science degree from Youngstown State University and is an alumna of Carnegie Mellon’s John H. Heinz Graduate School of Public Policy.
George Hughes

George Hughes provides business unit leadership and support for Itron’s Field Collection System application, FC300 Handheld, MC3 AMR data collection and related processes. Since assuming his current role in 2004, George has become an organizational resource for meter reading technologies and has field accountability for 475,000 of Union Gas’ 1.4 million customers. George joined Union Gas in 1978 and has held technical, supervisory and managerial roles in customer service, planning and dispatch, marketing, and utility services. Projects under his management have involved the delivery of technical and soft skills training support for in-truck data terminal deployment, and implementation and upgrade of Itron suite products. In addition to business management, George has completed continuing education studies in human resources, finance and project planning. He holds certificates of qualification related to the gas industry and HVAC. By joining the Itron Utility Week Advisory Board, George will help others learn, network and problem solve while developing lifelong business relationships and friendships. Outside of work, he enjoys furniture building and renovation projects and playing golf. His most rewarding role, along with his wife, is as father and mother to their children and as Nana and Papa to two granddaughters.
